<gary> With my thinking I have managed to solve this one!

<gary> Phew... finally got this one.

<radiant> Sure it's a hard level, but it has no sense of flow whatsoever. It just seems like a bunch of random puzzles strewn about, using the level's huge size to obfuscate anything about the order they have to be done in.

Those Pesky Robots! Thu 12 Mar 2009 20:43
<radiant> There are only so many touches you can put on a level like this, and that one just doesn't seem to stick.

<mm> Cool! (-:

<Tom 7> Also, btw, nice run!

<Tom 7> Very nice. Now I can take DES off my level to-do list. :)

Tutorial 17: Daleks Sat 07 Mar 2009 09:11
<Tom 7> I actually don't mind at all if people spoil or provide hints for the tutorial levels, because those are about teaching you how to play, not about puzzling. (Well maybe a little about puzzling.) But I deleted the solution in the comment because FrodoGreat requested.

The dialog is asking for you to describe how you subverted the level designer's intent if you think that you "cooked" the level.

<wowei> nice puzzle, Julie. keep on keeping on with those!

block cipher Sat 07 Mar 2009 08:17
<wowei> hey this looks like a well designed crypt-machine. i especially like the way the number of bits is disguised when entering the key; perhaps a bit paranoid but nice and funny too.

but i dont think, it gives very strong encryption.

it reminds of DES with a 63 bit key and 24 bit salt or 7 s-boxes and going for 16 rounds. but the resamblence ends herewith, i think.

DES uses the same function for cryption and decryption only with its subkeys in opposite order from round to roind. and there doesnt exist an inverted function. means:

(i=input or cleartext, k=key, o=output or cipher)

fik(i, k) -> o doesnt have an inversion
fok(o, k) -> i

it seems very likely that an inverted function (fok) exists in your machine. and that weakens the strength of cryption and gives a point for attacking it. it even increases the probability of the existence of

fio(i, o) -> k

which would ruin the crytion. Nevertheless i dont believe, i will be able to solve this puzzle, and thatswhy i hate your machine! ;)

brute force, hahaha. dont you people think before writing?

does your key contain any message at least, pieguy?

<pieguys evil> by the way, whose idea was it to limit online names to 12 bytes? this makes it sound like pieguy is evil, which, unfortuntely for me, he's not. only his evil clone (that's me) is evil. me, i prefer extolling the many virtues of cake.

Tutorial 17: Daleks Tue 03 Mar 2009 21:52
<gary> I mean, the solution code.
<gary> Nope, solutions and comments cannot be deleted.
<FrodoGreat> I'm truly sorry for the solution.
The dialog asked me to provide one, and I thought it might get into some sort of database, and oops, there it is on the web page. I think I was a little too excited...
Can I erase it?
<gary> A really nice speed record, but don't give the answer to everyone, FrodoGreat.
<FrodoGreat> This level is truly amazing. It's easy to solve, but very hard to find to fastest solution.

<Gil Anthony> finally got it Max.

block cipher Sat 28 Feb 2009 05:11
<pieguy> cracking DES in less than a day was the result of the coordination of thousands of computers (including one built specifically for cracking DES), which enabled them to check 200 billion keys per second. so far the best i've been able to achieve for this cipher is 80k keys per second (per core) on my computer, meaning it would take an expected million cpu years for my computer to crack it.
<gary> I think that it may be not solved in 24 hours, but it can be solved about 100 to 200 days.
<radiant> Unsolvable? In a world where DES can be brute-forced in what, 24 hours?

<Gil Anthony> Asterix..you got it.Thats how to solve this level.After asking,I just completed it today.As a rule we guard any hints on solving puzzles.I can tell you that you are on the right track.Keep a focus on the elements and squares you need to get to or change.Keep trying and you well see the move you need to make.

<Asterix> I just discovered this game yesterday I'm starting out with the earlier levels I've been stuck for awhile now on screen 25, specifically how to get to the button that turns off the yellow square. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
