Be on the Right Side III Thu 09 Feb 2006 17:45
<bpotetz> (SPOILER) Cook: These are getting better. Doesn't require the hugbot, though.
<mjn> (SPOILER) Nice one. I like how you have to bring the hugbot down on the left--I spent a few fruitless minutes trying to devise a way to get him down on the right before I realized you could do that...

A Level with Bombs Thu 09 Feb 2006 14:05
<Doom> (SPOILER) My 666th solved level in the triage. Evil!

I don't think that's a bad cook. It feels almost as intentional as the original solution. At least I don't think that this level requires a fix.
<bpotetz> (SPOILER) Added solution "Over the Top":
Here is something of a cook.
Neat level idea, though

<KWM> If I make another portrait I'll make the level more complex. I was very reluctant to change the picture because I wasn't sure if it was recognizable. The player and the button were the only things I added. The empty area was already there.

Level 001 Thu 09 Feb 2006 05:37
<Mary> (SPOILER) Added speedrun: 85 moves (old: 86).
Added spreed run 85
<mlc> (SPOILER) Added speedrun: 86 moves (old: 90).
slight improvement over my last solution

<mjn> (SPOILER) Ooh, I like the original solution to this. (I'll bet there's a way to uncook it...)

<Tom 7> Hehe. I am actually glad that this one is frustrating--the solution is ultimately really simple and there is no "trick", but it is still remarkably elusive.

I definitely plan to improve the browsing of comments. I mean, for one thing, you should be able to read comments from inside the game--how stupid is it that you can only post from the game and read from the web? I almost can't believe that we've gotten this far with that weird mode of communication. Also: you can skip through the level list faster by changing the numbers in the URL; in fact if you get the id of the level (use its filename, in this case lev370.esx) you can just jump directly to its entry. But yes, I apologize for the usability problems.
<Doom> And funnily, 2 minutes after saying that I solve the level.
<Doom> Difficulty rating: 4? Give me a break. I've been trying this one for a long time and I'm still making no considerable progress.

Tom, will there ever be a way to browse comments of the old levels? The only way to do that at the moment is "little" tedious and involves clicking a certain 'next page' button maaaany times.

<Tom 7> I was wondering how long it'd be before people started doing this kind of thing. ;) A nice portrait! But there has got to be room for a more interesting level in there, right??

<Doom> (SPOILER) Cook: Didn't need to use the yellow block.

<Doom> I must say that this is the first decent Escape art level I've seen (even if the puzzle is very trivial). I never found that 2-tile level so cool...
<Max> Actually I think the picture is fantastic, especially if you zoom out all the way. But yeah, the puzzle is really trivial!

<Blue Devil> (SPOILER) Cook: Moved a green box right in front of the door.

Morgan Mix 2 Fri 03 Feb 2006 10:16
<Lukas> (SPOILER) Added speedrun: 332 moves (old: 340).
Easy

<Adam> (SPOILER) Added speedrun: 116 moves (old: 118).
Optimal.

<Tom 7> Nice level, Lukas!

Easy Bombs Wed 01 Feb 2006 16:24
<Tom 7> (SPOILER) Surprisingly trickier than the others in the series. I cooked it like Alois did, though.

Trivial Tue 31 Jan 2006 12:39
<Blue Devil> (SPOILER) Cook: didn't need to use the panel -- is it a red herring?

Changing Positions Mon 30 Jan 2006 18:09
<Tom 7> Nice, although the original seemed more difficult because (if I remember correctly) there wasn't a corridor around the whole thing. Welcome subtlety at the end with the red bricks.

Dalek Base Mon 30 Jan 2006 17:38
<Tom 7> (SPOILER) Added speedrun: 339 moves (old:
345).
You can do a lot with those bombs, but nothing is faster than Henri's technique, that I can find.

Changing Positions Mon 30 Jan 2006 12:10
<Doom> (SPOILER) Added speedrun: 1089 moves (old:
1359).
A little improvement...
<Doom> (SPOILER) Added speedrun: 1359 moves (old:
1567).
No, I don't mind people making different versions of my levels, as long as they're significantly different.

I doubt that this speedrun will stay long either. It's very hard to find anything close to optimal in levels like this.
