Another Small Dalek Problem Sun 27 Sep 2015 08:21
<mark> (SPOILER) Added speedrun: 1395 moves (old: 1568).
Great mod Jim it seems that there is more fun to be had on the right side of the level than the left.
My dalek weaving was a bit different to yours.

<N7DOT> (SPOILER) Actually, to me the speedrun method here constitutes a possible spoiler to mark's mod. I know mark uploaded the method here in the first place, but I didnt realize that something of the sort was possible before trying the 'plain' mod and having to come up with it in order to find a solution. As such I had to come up with a new method.

Ultimately it depends on if anybody else thinks it counts as a spoiler.
<mark> (SPOILER) Added speedrun: 183 moves (old: 184).
One little saving at the end.
<N7DOT> (SPOILER) Added speedrun: 184 moves (old: 196).
Improved one of the steps of mark's run.
<mark> (SPOILER) Added speedrun: 196 moves (old: 591).
This was the way I solved before I modded.

This embedding is really elegant.

But it's broken. :(

<N7DOT> (SPOILER) Added speedrun: 231 moves (old: 247).
Neat twist, I was not expecting to have to go without that middle block :p
The difficulty is around the same, but I think this one has the advantage that it is very minimalist - it's almost a pure block shoving level.

Your solution was much more effiecient than my first one - however, adding a little bit of my own methods I came up with apparently can help shave a few moves.

Not sure whether to rate the same as before or if I should adjust my rating slightly. I suppose I'll rate the same (maybe higher rigidity? maybe?) and remove the blueberry level soon.

<N7DOT> Also, I was thinking that maybe we could try doing another dedicated modifications series soon? I know there isn't as many people around as there once was, but it might be nice.

I'm proposing this as a comment rather than making a level right away as I'd like to make sure it won't just be a flop by seeing what everyone else thinks.

<N7DOT> (SPOILER) I solved in a very different way, another mod on its way.

Great Level N77DOT had lots of fun, hope the bots are not to annoying as they are needed some more.
<carolyn> (SPOILER) The bots were mostly annoying, I'm glad I got this one though.

<N7DOT> (SPOILER) Wait no, using a dalek would actually make it really easy...
<N7DOT> (SPOILER) Added solution "Original (Cleaner)":
Escape went and used my first (incredibly slow) solve instead of this one... so much redundant movement in trying to find a solution...

Planet Mercury Mon 07 Sep 2015 04:50
<N7DOT> (SPOILER) Interesting variety of solutions on this one. Mine's very slow and crashes the dalek on the top panel; and it is VERY conservative in arranging everything.

<N7DOT> (SPOILER) Added speedrun: 290 moves (old: 299).
considerably different from the other uploaded solutions. thought of making a mod instead of this, but it doesnt require different enough handling of pieces to be worth it.
<N7DOT> (SPOILER) Added solution "carolyn's solution":
This solution (to-be former speedrun) is significantly different from the original solution and the speedrun I'm about to upload, so I'm uploading a non-speedrecord copy so that it won't disappear.

<carolyn> (SPOILER) Fantastic mod N7, I must have tried this 10 different times the last 3 weeks until finally the light went on. I liked your accompanying anecdote too, this time I remember to tie my shoelaces so I wouldn't trip while escaping.

Did I miss something? Maybe! Mon 03 Aug 2015 20:26
<carolyn> (SPOILER) Nice level, I ended up doing it much like you did Mark, with a few variations and about a hundred less moves.
I was also trying to solve it like your brilliant shortcut MM, but I couldn't pull it off.
<mm> (SPOILER) Added speedrun: 72 moves (old: 74).
I seem to have cooked this, but still think it's a great little level!
