<Stephan> I've made minor changes to fix the cooks and problems from the previous version. It's a simple and symmetrical level. |

<Tom 7> Is there a new version of this forthcoming? I've been avoiding it since it is apparently so cooked, but it looks like a nice level.. |

<Zoogie> It's actually kinda fun to watch the escapist do his little dance in the mystery solution. :) |

<Tom 7> I have all the info on the server to make histograms, so if there ever get to be lots of ratings, I can generate those.
I think the ratings are mainly useful for the purposes of triage (which I ought to start doing, since the triage dir is getting very large!). But they'll probably stick around after the levels are moved to more permanent homes, since having more accurate ratings is better, and since I still think it's valuable to see the difference between a good easy level and a good hard level and a good loose level, etc. |

<Tom 7> Yeah, this definitely can happen if you use solution import. (I've had it happen to me, too.) I'm changing it now to automatically trim the solution that it finds so that it will be the right length. |

<Max> Well, all in all, I guess you should leave pre-solved ratings in. I do agree with Brian about the ratings histograms, eventually though... Just out of curiosity, are the ratings in place just to help determine an "official" level set, or do you plan on keeping them in the final version of Escape? |

<mjn> I looked at the player file and discovered that the mystery solution is identical to my solution for the level cc3f2354eeb9f8c2f2e1778ec3f83ad0, whichever that is. Could this be the solution-recovery at work?
<bpotetz> lol. You know your level is loose or easy if it's automatically solved by solutions to random other levels.
<mjn> Weird bug report: This level seems to have solved itself. That is, there's a solution for it on the level menu (although not a rating), but I don't know where it came from, and the solution is broken--the player reaches the exit after something like 100 moves, but then he keeps moving (on and off the exit!) for another 700 moves.
I'm going to try to upload the solution to the server.
I also had this happen on "Which Exit Works?", but in my puzzlement I solved it for real and apparently overwrote the mystery solution. |

<Tom 7> Well, I'll cop to rating this one before I beat it...
Rating rigidity is clearly senseless until you've beat it, but I think it is possible to accurately assess style and difficulty for a level like this (I've certainly spent a lot of time time trying it...!)
Unfortunately, I think showing the ratings separately would be pretty useless since almost nobody rates without solving. So is it worth just turning off pre-solved rating? It's easy to do, but I feel like it could leave some really good and hard levels (that have gotten a lot of play time) with too little feedback. |

<Tom 7> Brian definitely gets my vote for the highest "average difficulty", although Joshua is not far behind. More levels from everyone, hooray!!
<Max> Haha, no, I only meant that you're the only one who has solved "Hardest IQ Carrier (EXPERTS ONLY!!)", if I'm not mistaken.
But I do agree you should make some levels, as hard a time as I have solving yours... |

<bpotetz> It would also be cool to see ratings histograms. That way we could tell which levels are unanimous and which ones are both loved and hated.
On the other hand, there's no rush on that feature since most levels only have 3 or 4 ratings so far. |

<bpotetz> Wow. If I'm an expert, than you must be too, Max. I play a lot of levels, but you write a lot, and writing is harder.
I should write some more levels.
Probably Tom knows a couple things about escape, too. |

<Max> I agree, Joshua. I think ratings should be tabulated separately, among those who have solved the level and those who haven't. This would be a little complicated, but often the style of a level is highly dependent on the solution. And it's pretty much a guess to rate rigidity before having solved a level. Really the only reason to rate a level before solving it is to express that you are having trouble solving it. |
