<Dave> If this is going to get into Very Funny it needs a completely new twist not a mod. I have an idea... it might just work, give me a couple of days :)
<Dave> So, thanks to N7, the new par score is 678. It should come down a bit yet. I'm still on 679...
<Dave> (SPOILER) That is exit 3, so I've wasted a move on that one somewhere. Obviously, 2,5,6,7 are easy to solve. Exit 1 is the fun one... I'll think about a mod, it wouldn't be a bad 'intermediate' level, should be worth a 5, but blocking the others without making it obvious or leaving a cook won't be easy. I know 200 is not optimal, I just haven't bettered it yet.

Crossword order is standard 'western' reading order: prioritised by row number first, then column number, starting top left.
<N7DOT> (SPOILER) Also, although i'm not familiar with 'standard crossword numbering', the exit sharing a space with a transponder can be reached in 94 moves.

I wonder if this level will actually be able to get into veryfunny (as that's pretty much the only way this level would be played by most new players in the future)
<N7DOT> Oh yes, it is 7 alright. There's that one buried within the dalek cave in the lazer maze, opposite of the more obvious exit.
<N7DOT> (SPOILER)
Note that there are some VERY SIGNIFICANT SPOILERS in this comment. Although admittedly the level is rather easy if you go hrough the heart collection or bot maze.

Dave, I originally intended to have examples of 'bad' levels with no solutions and one just barely ok level that was solvable, but since I thought that might confuse players, so I changed it to only poor-style levels. I did not get rid of the anti-solution mechanisms, however. If any of the solutions are significantly more difficult, feel free to adapt them (obviously removing low-style bits in all cases where such is possible.) The top left door with the two bots and the lazer maze ones were supposed to be impossible.

Also, I only counted five exits, unless you include the sleeping door in the upper left room, which now that I think about it would be better as a stop sign or something.
<Dave> (SPOILER) That's an aggregate of 679 moves for the 7 exits. Any further bids?
<Dave> (SPOILER) I understand this probably defeats the object of the level but...

We could have a little speedrun contest with this one. Numbering the exits in standard 'crossword' order: I currently have 1-200, 2-81, 3-95, 4-71, 5-102, 6-86, and 7-44.

I must confess that I didn't immediately spot that you had made all the exits available, I thought some of them were purely for misdirection...

<N7DOT> (SPOILER) It's a bit tedious to talk using a level in the grave yard and will probably become more tedious over time. I don't know of any perfect way to remedy this, but a possible way to discuss these hings would be to use the 'test' message board at msg.spacebar.org/f/a/s/msg/disp/1 as it does not appear to be used by any of Tom's other sites.

@mark: I see what your going for now, but I can't think of any good ways to fix it without making it too obvious.

Also, I suggest that we not make a 'lear a trick' around the basis of wowei's 'protection' level, as that one does a good job already of using that trick.

<N7DOT> This is an excellent level! Small levels that are very difficult are hard to come by.

<N7DOT> Gil, that's partly the point. The level wasn't intended to be hard or stylish, but to make a point.

<Jim> (SPOILER) I always like your levels biloute, there is so much to explore and I almost always have to backtrack a lot before I solve them.

<mark> Just a few more levels, not really tricks in all of them buy i started to call them Learn a trick so i'll stick with it.
Most of the levels are just simpler versions of some of the things you would have to do in some of my levels or mods.
There not intended to be hard just fun.

<Gil Anthony> way to easy...

Destroy the big wall Sat 09 Nov 2013 03:42
<N7DOT> Man, I can destroy the big wall but then there is the tiny blue square before the exit that's killing me. And the fact that there's a yet *tighter* one is even more taunting... especially as the difficulty is 3.

hearts n dots 2 Sat 09 Nov 2013 03:30
<N7DOT> (SPOILER) Added solution "no hearts":
not picking up the hearts works too.

<Dave> That's it from me. After a 15 hour shift followed by a few beers, one speedrun is enough! Good night all.

4x4 contest 1346 Sat 09 Nov 2013 00:50

Well, this level seems cooked! I knew this one seemed fragile...
