| Japanese Escape! |

<Tom 7> heee, nice. Of course, this embedding hard-codes the solution rather than checking it by some mechanism. (I wish I had a name to describe such embeddings--maybe "extrinsic"?) The particular way it's encoded makes it easy to solve by looking at the alternate layer. Nonetheless, Kudos for your courage!
By the way, it's pretty clear that an "intrinsic" 9-digit su doku (with checking mechanism) would not fit in the regular board size, since even this one basically maxes it out. How do people feel about increasing the board size? Are editors running into size limitations frequently? I'm not sure what I think...
<SPAM> 'Japanese Escape!' uploaded by SPAM:
My desperate try to make a working 9*9 sudoku. It works, but it probably doesn't look that good and is hard to understand. Other disadvantages are that it needs a huge board and that it only works for one solution (but that's not too bad, because there's ussually only one solution ;)).
The puzzle itself is self-made, not taken from any book. It shouldn't be too hard for practised sudoku solvers (maybe I'll make a hard one soon).
Hope you'll enjoy it! |

<Doom> This is a little like what I was thinking about doing, but more clean, and more simple than mine. And it works - I couldn't see how to enforce different colors in each corner in my implementation. (Something like what Max did *could've* worked... but that's just crazy) |

Well looks like mjn beat me to a 4-digit Sudoku embedding, but since I put so much time into this I might as well upload it.
Though mjn's is much more efficient and slick as far as automation goes, this one does offer a few advantages:
1. There is already a puzzle in place so you don't need to build your own.
2. The solution is less obvious since you're allowed to move all non-given blocks wherever you want before you finalize the solution.
3. There is a difference in texture between the given blocks and your blocks so you don't get them confused.
Sorry about the 300+ moves of verification! |

It's (no) SPAM again! I think this one will be a little bit harder, but still not too difficult. Still working on a trickier puzzle. Hope it's not cookable, anyway. |

Ask and ye shall receive!
The mechanism will accept any valid 4-digit sudoku. You could force a specific one by placing the givens and surrounding them with rough.
(Or you could just get rid of most of the mechanism and have panels below the board in the right places, of course, but that would give away the answer...) |

<Doom> Pretty tough level for it's size, but maybe a bit too much trial and error for my tastes. All those panels just aren't very clear.
<Kato> Wow!! That took a while to figure out! Nice Level. |

| Secret Square |

<SPAM> Cool!
When I played Escape the first time, I thought it wouldn't be too hard to create Sudoku puzzles. I also had an simple strategy (though it also used a huge board), but then I recognized there was a number of maximum bots, so I can't check if the solution is right...
<Max> 'Secret Square' uploaded by Max:
Well, here's my first level in months. It started from a fairly simple idea but turned into a pretty substantial project due to the complicated series of verifications necessary to restrict the puzzle. The "puzzle" part of the level is solely contained in the square; after you complete the square, everything else is a series of no-choice moves that allow the level to test whether the square is done correctly. So if the level appears to break and you get stuck, you did something wrong with the square.
The hardest part of the puzzle is figuring out what configuration the square is supposed to be in. I'd rather not give it away since I think it's logically deductible if you look at the level design, but here are some hints:
1. Where to place the colored blocks is the crucial part.
2. There are tons of configurations that will solve the puzzle, but they all adhere to the same rule.
I'll leave a "spoiler" hint that you can check if you get frustrated and need some more direction. |
