<Jim> (SPOILER) LOL Mark, don't say I didn't warn you!
<mark> Hi Dave that game sounds like a variation of Whist people play it differently all over.
My favourite game was also Crib, but none of my friends play cards except Poker or stupid non skill games.
I was brought up in a card playing family playing cards every Saturday and Sunday morning, sometimes domioes.
I have very fond memories of the days way back then when older relatives were still around.
I'm very adaptable to any game of cards and started playing poker about 20 years back.
I used to go to the casino to play in small tournaments 3 or 4 nights a week.(always turned a monthly profit)
I only gave it up with the advent of the internet as younger players were catching up to quick.
I don't consider myself a gambler and when my edge had stopped i stopped playing.
I started playing again when they made a pub poker league and these players are just as clueless.
Poker seems to be so easy to play but you never stop learning, knowledge is everything in this game.
People that have only played for a month and think there experts are the easiest to take money from.
I may well become a spades addict Jim as i really enjoyed it.
After playing another couple of hours and understanding the point system i bid my first nil and succeeded, but my partner was a computer and playing perfectly.
To be good at cards you still need to be lucky to win which thankfully i am.

My latest levels have been on hold, you can thank Jim for that.
<Jim> (SPOILER) Dave, that game you used to play in the UK sounds interesting. What makes spades good is that besides being a challenge to bid your hand right and being in synch with your partner is any hand that has a nil (card play then changes drastically). Ive been playing this game online since 1996 and haven't gotten bored with it yet. If any of you brainiacs here ever get really interested in the game, let me know, I would pard you online at some spades site.

16.1 and 16.2 I have been trying to trap the bot somewhere (like maybe the bottom right hand corner) but I can't pull it off.

<Dave> (SPOILER) Never really played poker myself. Spades reminds of another partnership whist game I used to play in the UK many years ago, I cannot for the life of me remember what is was called. Usual basic rules. Trumps are fixed before each deal by a cut. The dealer places a bid for the combined partnership total after viewing his hand (his partner's hand is kept blind on the table until after the bid is made). We played four points for hitting the bid, one point for one either side, -2 for 2 out, -3 for 3 out etc. It is a brilliant, obviously communication is only permitted if you don't get caught .) The fact that the strength of only one hand is known leads to some very interesting stategies.

Cribbage and canasta are still my all time favourites.

PS. Jim, I don't know how much 16.1 and 16.2 which teach you about the Grab the Dalek mod, you know all this stuff already, but they might get you in the right frame of mind. Both solutions (known so far) require the same number of free blocks (i.e. there are three stuck near the switch), and beleive me, I have looked and looked for a solution with one less.

<Jim> (SPOILER) I started out playing poker, once I discovered Spades I never looked back. Take my advice and don't get hooked on it, you will be like me and forever behind on escape levels. I am enjoying all the learn a trick levels, I got them all now except 16.1 and 16.2. I think the fact that I cant solve those are why I never was able to get noname's Grab the Dalek level. I did get Rouge Like Revampired (solved it a different way) about a week ago and saw both tricks then, but so far that still hasn't helped me with all the other ones. I went away from those levels a few days after that, I will go back to them in the future. Its always nice to keep a few stumpers around for a rainy day.
<mark> Hi Jim how you doing?
When i went out last night i was playing small stakes poker won about $30.(just found out the pound sign does not work in the comment box).
No i did not know spades but i do now spent the last 20 mins playing, enjoyable game.
Hope you like the new set of levels i made, some of them are meant to help.
16.2 by Dave took me quite a long time earlier today.I did it the speedrun way about 100 moves more.(yes there are 2 solutions so far)
I thought someone would take a block out but not two of them.

Got a couple of ideas left to make a few more, mostly everything you need to know about my levels or mods.
Would not dream of spoiling other peoples levels, not on purpose anyway.
I like the fact they are simple and to the point but maybe not a dead cert for the beginner.

How you getting on in rouge like level's and have you spotted the clues?

Having an early night tonight 00.20

See you all good luck..

<N7DOT> Moved to graveyard:
Back to the drawing board for anti-cooking purposes...

(also, I completed antoher implementation, but the solution is long enough due to the puzzle's length itself that I can't upload it yet)
<N7DOT> That is an oops! That's going to be a pain to fix... (I'm not going to settle for 3 values since that is too easy...)
<Dave> (SPOILER) Added solution "Oops!."
<N7DOT> 'Langton Cubes (4 values)' uploaded by N7DOT:
Here is a implementation of the puzzle mentioned earlier. The original version I was working on had 8 different values, but that was going to require a lot of tedious copying and remote destination setting in a huge jungle of a D-map. So I decided that I should at least make a simpler version that wasn't such a mess. And how much simpler it is.

Before I go any further, I should probably state what's being implemented in the first place! The puzzle is this:

Place N pairs of cards in a row with values 1 to N, and then rearrange the cards such that for any two cards with value X there are exactly X cards separating them.
In the case of N=4 (as it is here) there is only one solution, ignoring its reflection. This means that the rigidity should be very high; maybe around a 9.

Grey=1, Blue=2, Red=3, Green=4

(and I know, calling them cubes then cards is silly; cards are an easy way to try the puzzle yourself, and the cubes bit... well, I'll leave that to you)

<N7DOT> Right now I'm working on implementing a certain math puzzle in Escape, so it will be a while before I add a new level. (well, there is another one that's more well known and is still just a concept right now.)

<mark> Nice mods Dave as always, just noticed them ten minutes ago.
Tried desperately to solve both only managed the one.
Going to meet friends for a beer and a game of cards.(won't be fit to solve the last one till tommorow)

Glad to see you speed run both ways of trick 15.
Hope you don't mind me making these levels, this is the only place i could think someone might be stuck in a R L level.
With me i always want people to be on the same page.
